Prosthesis or Bust

With the cost of prosthesis ($400 in many cases), we have been contacted in respect to alternative options that we thought we might share with you. One survivor would like it noted that there are very affordable breast forms, pads and silicone uppers that may work for some women. She reported successfully wearing a breast pad for many years for the low, low price of about $30.00. She found these pads in swimming stores.

Another option is going the custom-made route where the prosthesis is designed to match your body's skin tone, size and lifestyle. Yes - you can even have it tattooed. This is not the less expensive method but rather another option. A quick search on the internet under the term breast forms or breast prosthesis should yield results.

As you are aware, the Canadian Cancer Society Breast Bank does offer gentle-used prosthesis and bras if you are struggling with the cost of purchasing one (or two). Call 1.888.939.3333 to contact them.
